WEDDING CEREMONY TRADITIONS

BLESSING STONES

The ritual of the Blessing Stones is a wonderful way to include everyone in the wedding by way of offering blessings and good wishes to the newlyweds.

This ritual may be performed at the actual ceremony itself (before the blessing), or at the conclusion of the service (in a receiving line manner), or later at the reception.

When the guests arrive at the ceremony, they are given a Blessing Stone along with a note card with words printed on it such as: "My wish for you is..." or "May you be blessed with..." or "May God bless you with..." The guest completes the sentence with a wish for the bride and groom.  The guest shares his or her wish with the bride and groom and tosses stone in a body of water (ocean, river, lake, vase, bucket, etc.).

The wishes or blessings can be read aloud by the bride and groom during their ceremony, or during the reception.

A variation - instead of using a stone, have your guests throw a penny in a wishing well or other vessel.

Or have a Blessing Box on your guestbook table with cards for your guests to complete and drop it the box.
