WEDDING CEREMONY TRADITIONSBLENDING OF THE SANDS
The Blending of the Sands is a beautiful and meaningful unifying ceremony from Hawaii that symbolizes the joining of the bride and groom or the blending together of their families.
Glass containers are needed for the bride, groom, and each child, when children are included. Each container is filled with a different colored sand, representing each individual's uniqueness. During the tradition, each individual will pour sand into the single container at the same time creating the blending of the sands and symbolizing the blending of their lives as one. As alternatives:

They chose Blending of the Sands for their wedding ceremony tradition. The bride used sand from a Washington beach. The groom's family brought sand from Florida. The Florida sand is lighter in color than the Washington sand. The different colored sands added an incredibly special personal touch to their sand ceremony. If you are from different beach areas, say Hawaii, California, Florida for example, consider using real beach sand for your blending ceremony. Not only does it create a stunning visual effect, but it also has added personal sentimental value to your ceremony. |

Symbolic Earth and Sky I performed a ceremony where I poured small stones in the container, representing the Earth. The couple each poured some of their sand individually, and then blended their sands. Their child poured a different color sand on top. Then they asked each of their guests to add some blue sand on top for the Sky. The symbolism from this blending was truly unique and awesome, not to mention visually stunning!
